Ever since seeing the movie Chef, I have had a serious hankering for food truck grub. Over the weekend I was invited to attend the first annual “Truck”erton Food Truck & Brew Fest at the Tuckerton Seaport which completely satisfied this craving. If you are not familiar with the seaport, you should be. It’s a hidden gem nestled along the Tuckerton River about a half hour from Ocean City, NJ. The festival featured food trucks, drinks and music. I left the kids with my husband and headed to the festival with my friend Julia and it was such a relaxing, fun and deliciously satisfying day. We got there early which was nice because we had a chance to really chat with the food truck vendors who were so delightful. We started our culinary adventure at The Cow and Curd truck and picked up some cheese curds with sriracha mayo. They had me at sriracha mayo which is apparently a craze now. They were perfectly delicious and gooey with the perfect amount of spice in the dipping sauce.
Next up was sheer genius from 1 Potato Two…Instead of using bread for sandwiches, they use jumbo potato skins. Is that not brilliant? The thanksgiving sandwich was fabulous and filling and I was grateful that Julia and I split that one. With all the savory, we needed some sweet so we headed to the Waffle de Lys truck for some waffles. These are some seriously authentic Belgian waffles. We asked for a recommendation and the lovely French woman helping us recommended the raspberry coulis topping and for that I am grateful. It was perfect and reminded me exactly of what I ate in Belgium.
With all that eating, there had to be some drinking. Valenzano Winery from Shamong, NJ was there with plenty of blueberry sangria to go around and was quite generous with the samples. I picked up a bottle of pumpkin wine for a friend who loves all things pumpkin. When looking at the line-up of who would be there, I was really looking forward to trying the beer from Pinelands Brewing Company. South Jersey does not have an abundance of breweries and I’ve heard good things about this place. They were serving up lemon wheat and blueberry blonde beer and both were fantastic. Although there was alcohol, this was a family-friendly festival, and ids were checked before buying anything alcoholic. So unless they somehow had a scannable fake id, no one who was underage could drink. There were plenty of other food trucks but I could only eat so much. There were a nice amount of options for vegetarians including a salad truck. Besides great food and drinks, the live music was so enjoyable.
Tuckerton Seaport is situated on forty acres and offers plenty to do for the family including a nature trail, lighthouse, art exhibits, playground and miniature golf course. They have great special events including summer Friday night free concerts, weekly literary lunches and a Haunted Seaport around Halloween. It’s a short drive from many shore points and something different to do. “Truck”erton was a fabulous introduction to the seaport and I will definitely be returning there soon with my family.
