Will you be observing Earth Day this year? Whether or not you go to an Earth Day celebration, it is a good time to reflect on how you live your life in relation to the bigger picture. Our daily actions impact the environment and we all need to be aware of this. There are so many ways that homeowners can impact the environment, so it’s important that we try and reduce our impact wherever we can. One way to do this is by making use of the three R’s – reuse, reduce and recycle. There may be times when you have a lot of unused items piling up in your garage or other areas of the home. If you’re certain that you won’t need it any longer, it might be a good idea to offer it to any skip bins for hire sydney (or anywhere near to you).
Some people might also try to be environmentally conscious by trying to fully optimize their household’s use of energy. This is a good way to ensure that homeowners aren’t wasting any energy, which can impact the environment. To see how you could optimize your energy usage, it might be worth looking at this here. That’s one way of reducing carbon footprints. I, personally, have tried to reduce my family’s waste which isn’t always convenient. But once you get into certain habits, they become routine. Here are some products I’ve been using to do so.
Juicer
Juicing is a very fun activity to do with my kids and the delicious juice is such a special treat for them, but it also serves another purpose. I get a weekly delivery of organic produce from Door to Door Organics and at the end of the week I find some things just didn’t get used and are starting to wilt. Rather than toss them in the trash, I toss them in the juicer. I will put almost anything in the juicer. I recently put tough broccoli stems in there and they were great mixed in with other fruits and vegetables. I frequently get asked about the juicer I have. I have a very inexpensive one that doesn’t take up a lot of space. It has earned a special permanent place on my counter because it gets used so much.
Resealable bags
Our constant use of aluminum foil, plastic wrap and plastic bags was really getting to me. So I recently switched over to using theses great reusable bags from Blue Avocado. Every time I pack lunch or snacks, I feel a lot better about reducing our waste.
Bee’s Wrap
It is so easy to reach for the plastic wrap when you want to cover something before putting it in the refrigerator. But Bee’s Wrap is a great alternative. It is made from beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin. The heat of your hands molds it and it is reusable.
So on this Earth Day, I encourage you to take a look around your kitchen and think of ways to reduce, reuse and recyle! I would love to hear what products you use to eliminate waste or changes you have made to reduce your carbon footprint.
